Richy's 1970 XW Ford Falcon Restoration - Pt 13 The Doors

Richy's 1970 XW Ford Falcon Restoration - Pt 13 The Doors

Riders of the storm! Finally an update on the Teal Glow XW; we tackled the door assembly this week, nothing beats the sound of an old Ford door slamming shut!

As with previous blog posts, a lot of this build serves the purpose of testing the products that we sell here at Mustang Auto Parts. Overall, we were more than happy with the fitment and quality of the products but we did encounter some issues which we will discuss in detail further down. It was also very interesting to see how the reproduction sheet metal compared to the original steel; surprisingly the repo side came together easier than the original side of the car. Detailed below is the sequence of progress during the door assembly. Take note of some of the issues we encountered with the products.

As always, comment your thoughts below.

(Pictured above) Shiny new parts! (less rear winders which got a once over)

-

(Pictured above) Oh and the glass guides that we restored

-

(Pictured above) Might be time to look at reproducing the rears?

-

(Pictured above) Now how did this go again?

-

(Pictured above) Action shot!

-

(Pictured above) We found that the bolt holes for the winder assembly are wrong on the repo door

-

(Pictured above) We also missed the fact that the repo door is missing the door bump stops found on XR to early XY doors

-

(Pictured above) Fortunately the bolt hole is an easy fix.. door bump stops, not so much

-

(Pictured above) Looking more complete now

-

(Pictured above) We also found the LHR outer weatherstrip (beltline) needed some trimming and massaging to fit correctly

-

(Pictured above) Door lock knob surrounds are always such a pain to fit but like anything, patience is key

-

(Pictured above) Crusty second hand calipers needing a new lease on life

-

(Pictured above) Super impressed with the quality of the new door latches

-

(Pictured above) Our chrome door handles look so fresh

-

(Pictured above) We didn't get any photos but we did have trouble fitting the door lock to the repo door.
